As Tropenboxes caracterizam-se por serem extremamente compactas. Na robusta caixa de alumínio, que também é utilizada em expedições, a lâmpada UV de 10W de uma PURION 500 até 400 litros por hora. O abastecimento de água pode ser regulado pela bomba integrada de 18W (active) ou por uma bomba externa existente (passiva). Se não existir uma fonte de alimentação estável no local de instalação, o sistema pode ser operado através de um painel solar. A bateria de armazenamento integrada de 12V 17AH assegura o funcionamento durante 20 horas. O robusto sistema plug-and-play é adequado para o abastecimento autossuficiente de água potável em áreas remotas sem uma fonte de alimentação central, em operações de socorro em caso de catástrofe, em expedições, viagens de investigação científica ou em camiões de alimentos.
