Many headlines in recent months and years have repeatedly referred to the problem of legionella. These bacteria thrive in hot water circuits, which has led to the health authorities banning showers in some apartments. In this very annoying situation for tenants, the PURION 2500 H can provide a remedy. The landlord saves a lot of costs by using this system instead of heating the water by 20°C to 70°C at extremely high cost. The principle of UV-C disinfection is based on the fact that the DNA of the legionella bacteria is dissolved and they are reliably killed. Low energy costs and comparatively low replacement lamp costs are easy on the wallet. Thanks to its special design, the UV-C lamp in this system can be replaced during operation, although this will only rarely be necessary due to its long service life. With an output of 5,000 l/h, this UV-C system can easily supply even larger apartment buildings with legionella-free water.

Thanks to a wide-voltage ballast, this system is designed for a voltage range of 85-264V and can therefore be used in many different countries. The system is equipped with a Euro plug and can also be used for other plug types with an adapter (not included).

This UV-C disinfection system from PURION meets all the technical requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance. The stainless steel 1.4571 used is also used in the food industry and therefore complies with the standard. The required UV-C dose of 400 J/m² with a UV-C transmission of 90% T1 cm is achieved in compliance with the prescribed maximum flow rate. This UV-C system therefore achieves a disinfection rate of 99.99%, as required by law. For trademark reasons, this system does not have a DVGW-Therefore, in individual cases it must be clarified with the health authority whether the UV-C disinfection system can be used.

Can the system overheat?

For the hot water systems PURION 1000 H and 2500 H, there is no risk of overheating as the lamps are designed for these temperature ranges.

How do I know which UV-C system is right for me?

The hot water systems are installed directly in the circuit, so the maximum flow rate is directly dependent on the performance of the circulation pump. For houses with 5 or more residential units, we recommend the PURION 2500 H. Our customer service team will be happy to help you determine the ideal dimensions for the required system.

Why does the UV-C lamp have to be replaced after 8,000 hours (only for hot water systems) or 10,000 hours (for all other systems) even though it is still working?

Each UV-C lamp has a technical drop in UV-C output. The manufacturer guarantees that the system will still achieve 60% UV-C output after 10,000 hours. The data given for the systems always refers to this 60% output. From a running time of 10,000 hours, however, the drop in output continues to increase, the lamp still works, but there is no longer enough UV-C output for an optimum disinfection result.

Can these systems be used reliably to eliminate legionella?

In the H series from PURION H series contains special amalgam lamps that are highly effective in hot water. This means that legionella can be specifically killed even in larger water flows.

Why do I need a sensor and how does this differ from lifetime monitoring?

A UV-C sensor is used to measure the UV-C output directly at the lamp. This ensures a much higher level of safety for the user, as a drop in output is signaled directly. This can be due to poor transmission or a natural drop in the lamp's output due to the recommended maximum operating time of 10,000 hours being reached.

What UV-C dose is used?

For safe disinfection, we use a UV-C dose of 400 J/m². This output is sufficient to achieve a disinfection rate of 99.99% while maintaining the specified flow rate and transmission. This means that water from a tank or container can be treated with pinpoint accuracy.

When do I need lifetime monitoring?

Lifetime monitoring is recommended for all users who do not leave the system switched on permanently. We recommend changing the lamp every 10,000 hours, as the manufacturer does not guarantee the performance, i.e. the amount of UV-C radiation required for safe disinfection, beyond this.
