The desire to lead a largely self-sufficient life revolves around the question of drinking water supply. In order to be able to enjoy water from wells, lakes, rivers or cisterns, it must first be treated accordingly. Drinking water treatment is a complex field in which a suitable treatment chain must be put together depending on the condition of the source water. Bacteria, germs and viruses pose the greatest risk to health. The PURION 500 is the perfect combination of an energy-saving device and a very good disinfection system that gives pathogens no chance. Thanks to its short length of 32 cm, this system can be integrated very easily into the smallest water circuits. In terms of dimensions, the PURION 500 is ideal for use in small vacation homes and larger mobile homes. For a self-sufficient life without worrying about drinking water quality, the PURION 500 is the safest solution.

With the help of the 12V connection, this system can be integrated into various power circuits. Examples of this are rechargeable batteries and photovoltaic panels or the power circuit of a motorhome. A rechargeable battery is essential for photovoltaic panels in particular, as the UV-C lamp must be supplied with a constant 12V voltage.

This UV-C disinfection system from PURION meets all the technical requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance. The stainless steel 1.4571 used is also used in the food industry and therefore meets the standard. The required UV-C dose of 400 J/m² with a UV-C transmission of 90% T1 cm is achieved in compliance with the prescribed maximum flow rate. This UV-C system therefore achieves a disinfection rate of 99.99%, as required by law. For trademark protection reasons, this system does not have a DVGW-Therefore, in individual cases it must be clarified with the health authority whether the UV-C disinfection system can be used.

Where must the UV-C system be installed in the drinking water circuit?

A UV-C disinfection system is always the last link in a water treatment chain, as the distance to the tapping point should be kept as short as possible. Water filters in particular offer ideal conditions for colonization by bacteria. The freshly disinfected water would therefore become contaminated again if it were to continue through the drinking water circuit after passing through the UV-C system. Pressure boilers should also always be installed upstream of the UV-C systems.

When do I need service life monitoring?

Lifetime monitoring is recommended for all users who do not leave the system switched on permanently. It is recommended that the lamp is replaced every 10,000 hours, as the manufacturer does not guarantee its performance beyond this, i.e. the amount of UV-C radiation dose required for safe disinfection.

Does the system switch on automatically when water flows through?

The UV system should be switched on permanently for various technical reasons:
1.) The UV system requires approx. 1 minute to reach full power.
2) When igniting the lamp, approximately as much energy is required as for operation over two hours.
3) Each switch-on and switch-off cycle is detrimental to the service life.

How do I know which UV-C system is right for me?

The correct dimensioning of the systems is not based on the maximum daily consumption but on the expected maximum peak rate and is therefore dependent on the performance of the pump.

What should I bear in mind when installing 12V DC and 24V DC systems?

It must be ensured that no power supply units with pulsed voltage are used, as this can cause irreparable damage to the system.

Can the system be operated with photovoltaic panels?

Yes, this is possible. However, the use of a battery is always recommended for igniting the lamp. In addition, a solar regulator should always be used.

Do you recommend tank sterilization?

No, we recommend using flow-through reactors, as this precisely defines the maximum distance between the water to be disinfected and the UV-C lamp. A tank disinfection system can only guarantee complete disinfection if it has a previously calculated circulation. In addition, flow-through reactors are significantly more efficient.
