Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our product.

The pool systems from PURION are not subject to overheating problems if the UVC system is turned on but there is no water flow.

For optimal effect, we recommend circulating the entire pool content at least three times daily. However, the system should be in operation for at least 8 hours daily to ensure sufficient ventilation and filtration. Our customer service is happy to help you determine the appropriate sizing.

There is a simple calculation for this: the pool content should flow through the UV-C system at least three times a day to kill a large portion of the algae through proper mixing. If algae growth is increased, for example during periods of extreme sunlight or after heavy rainfall or a thunderstorm, we recommend setting the circulation rate to a fourfold circulation temporarily. Regardless of the circulation rate, we recommend having the system in operation for at least 8 hours daily to allow sufficient ventilation and filtration.

By considering all three basic recommendations for using a UV-C system in the pool area, the pool can be operated completely without chlorine. Occasionally, the targeted use of a biological flocculant may be advisable. However, our high-quality UV-C lamps allow a combination of chlorine and UV-C, as no ozone is produced, which would react with chlorine.

The high-quality UV-C lamps from the brand PURION are durable and very powerful. They produce a very high UV-C content. The lamps we use in the pool area are also used in other systems for drinking water treatment. The UV lamps used do not emit radiation below 250nm, which excludes the formation of toxic ozone. Thus, the systems from PURION can be used in combination with other treatment methods that use, for example, chlorine.

Our compact systems can be operated via regular sockets, which are typically secured with 10A or 16A. Ideally, this is also secured with a separate FI/LS switch designed for 30mA or better 10mA.

No, from our perspective, ozone should not be used in the pool area under any circumstances. Ozone is highly toxic. Excess ozone must be laboriously destroyed again, and it is often unclear how much ozone is left. Furthermore, ozone reacts with chlorine, significantly reducing the effectiveness of both methods. Cheaply produced UV lamps often emit radiation below 250nm, which can lead to ozone formation. This is excluded in the systems from PURION.

Every UV-C lamp has a technically induced decrease in UV-C performance. The manufacturer guarantees that the system still reaches 60% UV-C performance after 10,000 hours. The specified data for the systems always refer to this 60% performance. However, after 10,000 hours of operation, the performance decrease continues. Therefore, the lamp still works, but it no longer produces enough UV-C performance for optimal disinfection results.

A lifespan monitoring is recommended for all users who do not keep the system permanently switched on. A lamp replacement every 10,000 hours is recommended, as the manufacturer does not guarantee the performance, i.e., the amount of UV-C radiation dose necessary for safe disinfection, beyond that.

For clean pool water with minimal chemical use, UVC disinfection requires optimal conditions. With good circulation, regular cleaning, efficient hydraulics, and a well-maintained filtration system, the water remains hygienically clear in the long term.
